Find your Laundry Room
I found half my laundry room today and re-organized my biz supplies. It’s nice to know now when i need something in the laundry room I’ll be able to find 50% of it. OK, depending on what it is. Project near the end. I just need a few supplies to really organize it to full capacity. A few more M3 hooks for keys, coordinating labeled boxes for office supplies, laundry supplies, and extra bathroom supplies. Also…anything but a cardboard box for paper biz supplies. When I’m done I will share before and after photos.
Our house is going back on the market next spring and we are going to rock this market. Yes it’s a bad market but if someone wants our place they will make an offer and we will be ready. As far as design goes and organization which is a huge part of design and keeping a house clean to show.
The biggest part of organization is getting rid of stuff. Non of that…I’ll use that some day, or it cost a lot so i can’t just throw it out. No more excuses. If your thrifty throw everything in a box that you don’t use. Later separate that box into three categories. Trash, Charity, Sell/Re-gift/Giveaway. Now any new items that you meant to return put them all in one spot. Go find those receipts that go with that item (are you keeping all your receipts in one place and do you toss them into a check file every few months to make them easier to find and keep track of?) Tape the receipt to the item and then mark a day on the calendar when you will do all of your returns.
OK, back to the 3 boxes. Take the Sell box and sell it. If it’s a second hand children’s clothing store set a date and do it then give the remaining stuff to a neighbor/family member or charity. If it’s stuff you want to give a shot on Craigs list go for it. Search for similar items…if their are non possibly it’s not the place to sell it. If there are a ton you may have to price it to low to make it worth your time so give it away.
Charity. Almost all of the items you give to charity can be a tax ride off. If you tight on cash and like a good tax return. Take a not pad and jot down everything in the “Charity” box. Talk to your tax guy about estimating their current value forms etc.
Getting rid of stuff is not a pain it is liberating. Just like when you let go of grudge you’ve been carrying around let go of all of your baggage. Wow will it ever feel great.
Like that shirt that never fit just right or never looked good on you to begin with =) Or, that gift that you know was expensive or took a lot of time but you just can’t stand so it sits in the closet corner. There is always the sentimental stuff. I’m not very sentimental…at least not for large objects unless they are the exact design piece I’m looking for. I am honest and tell people i will never use it. I take a picture of something and then toss or give it back to the giver if possible. Very old ugly stuff is just not my thing. I’m a modern chick and that’s the truth. So the funky little rocking chair that great grandpa made that’s just for kids which pea green polyester furry paisley seat. Is just not something i find beautiful. If it was my grandpa i might feel different….na just not a fan. We just gave it back to the in-laws and asked them to hold on to it for us. Ironically when we did that we heard a story of one showing up at a god will store. Glad we didn’t do that with ours.
Don’t feel guilty just be honest. Surprisingly most people will understand. I really just don’t like it. Now the hand beaded, embroidered, and now framed 16×22 wedding thing on funky blue fabric with old fashioned dates and symbols that took my brother-in-law months to make. That can not be returned but will not be tossed. i will simple un-frame it, and put it with the “hope chest like stuff and my wedding dress (which i’m thinking of selling)” I’ll spray paint the frame and use it to hand art or something that screams….This is My house.
The only way to ensure un-happiness is to “try and please everyone” Stop! Get rid of anything you don’t like. Ah…how does it feel to be yourself again. - Krystal
